Kevin N. and his two siblings were taught by their parents the importance of financial responsibility at a very young age. Kevin’s parents instilled in their children the importance of learning how to properly save for the future.

Born and raised in the Bronx, Kevin’s family also focused on the value and commitment of making the most of their education.

From an early age, college was a goal set for each of the children. With his older sister at Albany Medical School, Kevin too had high hopes for his upcoming college selection process.

Fully understanding the financial commitments ahead, Kevin’s parents became aware of the newly formed MCU Foundation College Scholarship Program. The opportunity to secure a $5,000 grant would be a welcome addition with two children enrolled in college and a third child planning on following in their footsteps.

With Cornell as his top choice, Kevin understood the workload and demands of attending an Ivy League school. “I was fully expecting to have to take part in work study programs while at Cornell, knowing that it would provide limits on my studying. It was a huge relief for my family and I when we heard I was selected to receive the MCU Foundation Scholarship grant. I knew then that I could focus on my studies and the opportunities ahead.”

In 2025, fifty recipients were awarded the MCU Foundation Scholarship grant. The MCU Foundation held an awards dinner, helping celebrate not only these grants but the future that lay ahead for these scholars.

“Knowing that the MCU Foundation can help play a role in furthering the education of these young adults helps fulfill the mission of the Foundation. It is about helping create opportunities. Many times, having that opportunity is what makes a difference in their lives.” says George Chacon, President of the MCU Foundation.

This year, the MCU Foundation has increased the number of scholarship grants to seventy-five young adults. On June 4th, the MCU Foundation will honor these recipients at the 2026 scholar recognition dinner.

“I am finishing my freshman year here at Cornell,” said Kevin. “I am focusing on finance and accounting, and the course work is challenging. I feel so thankful for the MCU Foundation grant for helping give me the opportunity to focus on my studies and my future.”
